Parassinikadavu Muthappan Temple

Medium : Pencil on Paper (A4)
Date : 17-04-2013
Time : About 3 hours

[ From Wikipedia ]
Parassinikadavu Muthappan temple is a Hindu temple, located on the banks of the Valarpattanam river about 10 km from Taliparamba in Kannur District, Kerala. Principal deity of the temple is Sree Muthappan, a manifestation of two mythical characters called Thiruvappana and Vellattam. According to the local tradition, Thiruvappana and Vellattam are the characterization of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, two among the Trimurtis in Hinduism, respectively.

Rituals of the temple is unique in that it does not follow the Satvic Brahminical form of worship, as in other Hindu temples of Kerala. The main mode of worship is the a ritual enactment of both the characters of Muthappan, through a traditional dance known as Muthappan Theyyam. Fish, meat and toddy are the customary offerings to Muthappan. Muthappan Thiruvoppana Mahothsavam is the major festival of the temple, celebrated for three days every year on 19, 20 and 21 of Kumbham (the days correspond to 3, 4 and 5 March).

Also posting an old spray painting of this temple ( Using a tooth brush, comb and water colour) made in 2007.

Medium : Water colour using tooth brush and comb

You can read more about this temple, story behind Muthappan, etc from these links (Wikipedia) :

The temple is also a popular destination for travellers and pilgrims to savour the charm of Theyyam, a ritual that is performed here on a daily basis. Men adorning masks and costumes with a riot of colours perform this temple art form and it represents conflict between good and evil, with good ultimately emerging victorious.

Rahul Dravid - Pencil Drawing

"I leave with sadness but with pride"

Medium : Pencil
Date : 10 - 3 - 2012
time : about 4 hours

Rahul Dravid, Mr. dependable and the wall of Indian Cricket , announced his retirement from all form of cricket yesterday. Rahul Dravid has been prolific with his bat on the field and his humility and charm off it.

Here is some lesser known facts about the prodigy we call 'The Wall.
[ Courtesy : Ndtv.com  ]

* Glenn McGrath once said that if there was one Indian player who could get a direct entry into the famous Australian team of the late 90s, it would be Rahul Dravid.

* Dravid is the only player in the history of cricket who made his debut and retired in the same match. He played his only T20, against England last year and scored 31 off 21.

* Was voted the sexiest sports personality in India in an online survey (2004-05). He beat the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Sania Mirza.

* It is well known that Dravid was nicknamed Jammy because his father worked in a company which manufactured jams. Not many though, know that there is also a local school tournament named after the veteran batsman. The 'Jammy Cup' is held in Bangalore and the man-of-the-match gets the title of 'Jammy of the Day.'

* Dravid played hockey before he took to cricket. With a natural flair for the sport, he was even chosen to represent Karnataka's junior state team.

* Was proposed by a woman as part of MTV's popular show - Bakra. He was seen advising the 20-year-old (wannabe) Mrs Dravid about education and concentrating on other things in life apart from her obsession for him!

Thank you Dravid for for what you have given to the indian cricket. The wall will be missed.
Miss you Dravid :( :(

"Granny Apple Trio" 11x14 Colored Pencil Study on Canson Paper

Oh no, more fruit! Yes, more fruit. I'm having alot of fun drawing fruit with my colored pencils these days. They are actually relatively simple to draw as you don't have to get the shapes down perfectly. Although, the lone apple on the left does look more like a kiwi then an apple. Now there's a thought! Ah! Just kidding!  The hard and tedious part of coloring is all the layering as you know. That takes more time and effort in order to make them look real. If you are wondering what kind of colored pencils I use, not to sound like an advert, but I like using Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils. They are oil based pencils and don't produce a wax bloom on your work. I do have some other varieties of colored pencils that I sometimes use but Faber works best for me. As for my next post, I did a little painting with my acrylics and I'm just finishing  that now. And, no, its not fruit.  Stay turned for the next one.
