Safe Harbour 20 x 40 Acrylic on Canvas

I've learned last month, that certain life's situations can take you into different directions both physically and emotionally. Sometimes leaving you drained and lifeless in it's wake. Early last month during the time that I was to finish this painting, my husband passed away on June 5, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. I wanted to paint this scene as a gift of my love to him. Having always loved the water, he enjoyed sitting gazing out across it, saying how peaceful it was. Before he died, he was able to see this painting even though it wasn't quite finished yet, he quickly called it, Safe Harbour, a place of refuge. My comfort now is knowing that he's in his own Safe Harbour and as for this painting, it's one that I will always hold a most special place in my heart always.
Today I'm posting this special painting as a tribute to him and to also say, Happy Birthday Love. He would have turned 63 today.

Nature's Fury - Watercolor

I had a lot of fun with this one.  This is another piece of that handmade paper that has the beautiful deckle edge.  I love this shape and the deckle edge adds an interesting little extra something to it.  I had to seal the paper because it has no sizing in it.  Once it's sealed, the paint sits on the surface of the paper. It's a different way of painting than on a regular piece of watercolor paper but it's really a fun change.

I wanted this to portray the energy and force of water as well as how dangerous it can be.  I think this painting shows the energy and force but maybe the colors are too pure and pretty to convey any sense of danger.  You know me and my love for pure colors.  I guess if I'd used blues with more gray and other dull colors that would have given it a more dangerous feeling but that wouldn't have been nearly as much fun to paint.

"Late Afternoon on the Water" 12 x 16 Acrylic on canvas board

You've heard of writer's block. Well, how about painter's block! I was just having a bit of fun doing this painting, not trying to create some kind of masterpiece, but lately, I just can't decide on what to paint next. So I have been spending some time browsing through my photographs for inspiration and as it sometimes goes, nothing looked interesting to me. It makes me think that its time for me to get out and take some new photos with my camera. I will have to plan a trip out somewhere soon. In the meantime, how nice it would be to be out on the water in a boat like this one. Dream!

"The Wave" 11x14 Acrylic on canvas board

Ocean waves like this always fascinates people, urging us to stand closer to watch andhear them speak. They send out messages of warnings, telling us to be careful not to venture in too far, still, they're hypnotic movements captivates us to want to touch them regardless.
